Osun 2026: Tension In Osogbo As Suspected Political Thugs Clash

Written by on June 9, 2026

Tension broke out in parts of Osogbo and its environs on Tuesday as suspected political thugs allegedly unleashed violence in several communities, including Aisu, Owode-Ede and Oke-Fia, firing gunshots into the air and causing widespread panic among residents.

Eyewitnesses said the sporadic shooting forced many people to flee for safety, while some residents reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries during the unrest. The incident disrupted normal activities as fear spread across the affected areas.

Commercial activities were also grounded, with traders hurriedly closing their shops to avoid being caught in the violence.

Commuters were said to have abandoned their journeys and sought refuge in safer locations as the situation escalated.

Reacting to the development, the Osun State Chairman of the Accord, Victor Akande, alleged that individuals wearing Accord-branded face caps and those perceived to be supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke were specifically targeted by the attackers.

Akande described the incident as a disturbing sign of rising political intolerance in the state, warning that such acts pose a serious threat to democratic values, public order and the safety of citizens. He called on the Inspector-General of Police to launch a comprehensive investigation and ensure that all those responsible face the full weight of the law.

Similarly, the Osun State APC Governorship Campaign Council, through its Media and Publicity Committee Head, Oluremi Omowaiye, condemned the violence, describing it as politically motivated attacks directed at innocent residents and supporters of APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

The council accused criminal elements allegedly linked to the ruling party of fostering a climate of intimidation and harassment.

The APC campaign council also sympathised with victims who lost loved ones, suffered injuries or had their property damaged during the disturbances. It urged security agencies to take urgent steps to curb political violence across the state.

As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Police Command was yet to release an official statement on the incident.
