Ojoo Clash: Police Arrest 4 Suspects

Written by on July 9, 2026

Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects and the death of two persons following the violent clash that rocked the Strabag area of Ojoo, Ibadan, saying normalcy has now been restored to the community.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, preliminary investigations revealed that at about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, four young men arrived at a POS outlet in the Strabag area aboard a commercial tricycle to purchase mobile data.

“During the transaction, the suspects allegedly attempted to dispossess the POS operator of his mobile phone. The operator immediately raised an alarm, attracting residents who apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Abeeb Olajide, while the remaining three escaped”

The statement said the apprehended suspect was severely beaten by the mob before he was rescued by security personnel and taken to a nearby medical facility, and later referred to the State Hospital, Moniya, where he was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.

According to the police, the incident heightened tension within the community as some aggrieved groups mobilised for a reprisal attack, leading to widespread disorder in parts of the Strabag axis.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, immediately ordered the deployment of tactical and operational teams to the affected area to restore peace.

The police also reinforced the operation with additional personnel drawn from various formations across the state and worked in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun.

During the unrest, another resident, identified as Kamorudeen Abdulrasheed, reportedly died at a hospital from injuries allegedly sustained in the violence.

Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

The Command further disclosed that six makeshift shops containing picked and condemned plastic materials were set ablaze during the disturbance.

Officials of the Oyo State Fire Service responded promptly and successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby properties.

Police said four suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the incident and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Iyaganku, where a comprehensive investigation has commenced into the alleged attempted robbery, the mob action, the violent disturbance and other related offences.
