Pastor Shot Dead, Worshippers Missing As Gunmen Attack Church In Ekiti

Tragedy struck on Tuesday at Eda-Oniyo Ekiti, headquarters of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State as suspected bandits attacked a church.
The gunmen reportedly stormed the Christ Apostolic Church, Number Two, where a special revival programme was ongoing and shot a visiting cleric from Osun State, Pastor Aregbe.
Several worshippers were also injured, while at least six persons are currently missing, raising fears of possible abduction.
A community leader, who spoke to Radio Nigeria on condition of anonymity, said the attackers arrived shortly before 7 p.m. and opened fire on the congregation.
The incident has left residents in shock, as families continue to search for their missing loved ones.
The Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government, Mr. Pius Alaba, who confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation, said several people were still unaccounted for, noting that the exact number of those abducted could not yet be determined.
Mr. Alaba explained that reports from the pastor in charge of the church indicated that fifty people attended the programme and service was about to close when the attackers invaded.
He said while some worshippers managed to escape into the bush, others were shot in the process.
The LG boss added that the remains of the slain pastor have been deposited at the morgue.
