Tragedy In Ibadan: Mother Slumps, Dies During Teenage Altercation

Written by on May 4, 2026

A domestic intervention turned fatal in the Ayegun Oleyo area of Ibadan after a mother, Nafisat Adeniran, collapsed and died while attempting to mediate a physical altercation involving her teenage son and local youths.
The incident occurred in the Adewolo community, leaving the Adeniran family and neighbors in a state of shock. According to accounts from those present, the confrontation began as a verbal dispute that quickly escalated into violence.
The victim’s 16-year-old son, Fawas, stated that the trouble began while he was accompanying his mother and younger brother to deliver jewelry to a client. He alleged that two boys threw stones at him, striking his leg. After a brief verbal exchange involving a “curse” uttered by Fawas, the boys reportedly trailed him to his residence.
”They confronted me in front of our house,” Fawas recounted. He claimed the argument turned physical, and as the boys pinned him down, his mother stepped in to pull them apart.
However, 15-year-old Abeeb Abdulfatai, one of the youths involved, provided a different version of events. Abeeb claimed he was merely chasing livestock and throwing stones at animals when Fawas mistakenly accused him of targeting him. Abeeb admitted to confronting Fawas later regarding the insults traded, noting that the fight broke out just moments before the woman collapsed.
The husband of the deceased, Mr. Taofeek Adeniran, expressed his devastation over the sudden loss. He revealed that he had spoken to his wife just five minutes before the tragedy.
”She called me to come home and eat,” he said. By the time he arrived, the minor dispute had ended in his wife’s passing. It is reported that Nafisat slumped during the height of the tension and was unable to be revived.
The matter was initially reported to the Challenge Police Division before being transferred to the Iyaganku station for a more thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
When contacted for an official statement, the Public Relations Officer for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, indicated that he had not yet received a formal briefing on the case but expected details to emerge as the investigation progressed.
