Goods and properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed late Saturday night after a horrific car crash triggered a massive fire at the popular Dugbe Stationery Market in Ibadan.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred around 11:00 PM when a Lexus SUV, driving at high speed, lost control and rammed into an electric pole.
The impact was so severe that the vehicle split in two, spilling fuel across nearby shops.
The fuel instantly ignited, sparking a rapidly spreading inferno that engulfed multiple structures.
The fire heavily impacted numerous businesses, particularly laptop dealers and a major stationery merchant who lost four shops and warehouses to the flames.
Witnesses at the scene reported that while operatives of the Oyo State Fire Service arrived and worked tirelessly to battle the blaze, they ran out of water mid-operation.
A4O Radio observed that smokes were still visibly coming out from the shops as at the time of filing this report.
During a visit to the scene on Sunday morning, devastated shop owners were seen counting their losses.
Many expressed profound grief while appealing to the Oyo State Government for urgent financial support and relief.
