A major credential verification exercise conducted by Moshood Abiola Polytechnic has uncovered widespread admission fraud, leading to the expulsion of 365 students enrolled in its Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.
The institution said the affected students were found to have gained admission using forged National Diploma (ND) certificates and falsified academic transcripts purportedly obtained from various tertiary institutions.
The discovery emerged after the Polytechnic embarked on a thorough screening and authentication process of documents submitted by students during admission and registration.
According to a statement signed by the institution’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Yemi Ajibola, the exercise revealed extensive discrepancies in the credentials presented by the students.
The management subsequently approved their expulsion, describing the action as part of efforts to preserve the integrity of the institution’s academic system and prevent the erosion of standards.
Reacting to the development, the Rector, Koye Jolaoso, said the Polytechnic remains committed to promoting transparency, professionalism and excellence in its academic operations.
He stressed that prospective students should desist from attempting to secure admission through fraudulent means, warning that the institution would continue to subject all credentials to rigorous verification.
Analysis of the affected students showed that the School of Communication and Information Technology recorded the highest number with 156 expulsions, followed by the School of Business and Management Studies with 117, while the School of Science and Technology had 54, the School of Engineering 36, and the School of Environmental Studies two.
