World Teachers’ Day: NUT  Praises Makinde For Teachers Friendly Policies

Written by on October 5, 2025

The Oyo State government has been lauded for its responsiveness to teachers’ needs in the state.

A cross section of teachers made the submission during this year’s World Teachers Day celebration in Ibadan.

The teachers said the state government had been outstanding in the area of prompt payment of salaries, career progression, promotion of primary school teachers to salary grade level 16 and the appointment of a teacher as the Executive chairperson of the Oyo State Post-primary Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).

In a reaction,Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State, Comrade Raji Ismail, said Governor Makinde had been very attentive to the cries of teachers, hence the visible record of achievements of his administration towards teachers.

He described as heartening, the evacuation of the six year promotion waiting period for primary school teachers, creation of 10 TESCOM zonal offices and appointment of teachers as Permanent Secretaries/Tutor Generals into the newly created TESCOM Zonal offices.

He however regretted that teachers in the state still experienced inadequate funding of education and infrastructural deficits among others.

“On a very special note, I wish to present a few requests of teachers for prompt attention of the Oyo State government: the need to expedite action on approving the long standing request of inter-zonal transfer. The state government needs to hasten the release of running grants to school heads to enhance the smooth running of schools”Ismail appealed.

On his part, Executive Chairman of the Oyo state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Nureni Adeniran hinted that approval for 2023/2024 promotion letters has been received from the Civil Service Commission for primary school teachers, maintaining that promotion letters would soon be dispatched to teachers accordingly as and when due.

“The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, under my supervision, has been working with NUT, Association of Primary School Teachers Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) and other stakeholders to ensure teachers welfare are secured.”He maintained.

The OYOSUBEB Chairman however implored NUT to always enlighten teachers on public service principles to ensure optimum service delivery.
